We’ve all been looking forward to seeing Ed get started this season. Irish pony racing Champion Jockey in 2019 and Pony Racing Authority 148cm Champion in the UK in 2018, 2019 and 2021, Ed rode over 100 winners in pony races and it feels like he has been waiting a lifetime to turn 16 and get his licence!
Four of his seven rides in points since getting underway earlier this month had reached the frame, so we were all delighted to see him get his first winner on the board with Mary’s Fortune bolting up in the 2m4f maiden at Great Trethew in Cornwall on Sunday. The five year old had some really good form to her name in her native France and remains a maiden under rules, which is very much where her future lies, though we will be looking to add another win in this sphere first.
We didn’t need to wait long to cheer home another winner, with State Of Fame an easy winner in the restricted contest. A bumper winner in Ireland, he had shown ability over hurdles for us in the spring and is another that will be going back under rules in due course.
The treble came up courtesy of Halo Des Obeaux, who made his first start for us a winning one with an impressive win in the Conditions contest. A smart hurdler/novice chaser for his previous connections last term, he is a really exciting hunter chase prospect and the hope is that he will end up in one of the big races this spring.
To have ridden a treble within a fortnight of his first ride is an incredible achievement and hopefully that sets the tone for the season ahead!
