Madera Mist has had the Cheltenham April Meeting as her target all year, having won there in 2022 and finished runner-up to subsequent Scottish National winner Win My Wings in 2021. We had also decided it would be her last race before retirement, so to see her come home in front was a huge thrill for us all!
Given a fine waiting ride by Alan Johns, she crept into contention, jumped to the front at the last and battled up the straight to get the better of the runner-up in a driving finish. It was a fitting end to a career that has now brought three wins, each of them coming at Cheltenham, and she really has given her owners Paul and Louise Bowtell, as well as all of the team, some brilliant days to remember.
The plan is for her to be covered by Walzertakt, who stands at Chapel Stud, and hopefully we will get a chance to see one (or more!) of her progeny storming up the Cheltenham hill in the years to come.
